The Taylor 618e is a large bodied acoustic that delivers up deep full sounding acoustic sound with a level brightness that is only possible by using select tonewoods. This is one of the largest guitars in Taylors lineup and is shows its size well through its deep and very loud sound that amplifies beautifully.
New Changes
The updates to the instruments didn't change the way this guitar sounds but how it looks and feels. The entire guitar now has a gloss finish which covers the still natural top and the new sugar-brown stained back and sides that give off a traditional darker wood look.
In terms of smaller changes you also have new Ivoroid fretboard inlays and striped ebony pickguard that work fantastically visually with the new stained back and sides look that they have gone for.
Designed For BIG Sound
A lot of acoustic guitars sound great but don't quite have a 'big' enough sound to fill out the frequency range when played. This is especially important for singer/songwriters or for players who want a big strumming sound. You also need a pickup system that is going to register any dynamic changes in your playing to really express yourself.
The 618e has got the amazing ES-2 pickup system which has the piezo running alongside the saddle (in the bridge) as opposed to underneath, which is more traditional. After research, they determined that this gives the pickup 30% higher signal. You then have a clearer signal path and better acoustic sound coming through the amp. Taylor have spent years developing this system and outside of putting a microphone in front of a guitar this is one of the best ways to capture the sound of your guitar.
The guitar is made with a maple back and sides with torrefied sitka spruce top in a Jumbo cut that gives a big bass and low-mid response that'll respond especially well to players with a heavy right hand. The bigger the body of the guitar, the more energy needed to push the air and that means a heavy strumming hand will get the most out of a jumbo.
Large Traditional Design
If you are a fan of traditional styled acoustics you will love this large body without cutaways. When you have a cutaway on an acoustic it takes on a completely different feel that some will prefer while others will want this more traditional design.
